A Living Symbol of Sarajevo's Resilient Spirit

Welcome to the official website of the traditional Bosnian restaurant “Inat kuća” (House of Spite). The restaurant opened in 1998 and is located in the old Sarajevo neighborhood of Alifakovac.

Sarajevo during the rule of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy at the end of the 20th century, when it was supposed to be demolished during the construction of the City Hall, but due to the owner’s objections, it was moved to the other side of the river. It is located directly across from Sarajevo’s City Hall (the most famous building in Sarajevo) on the other end of Šeher-Ćehajina Bridge, right on the bank of the Miljacka River. You can find more about this story in the section.

Our guests about us

Dining at Inat Kuća is not just a meal, it’s an experience—where the rich flavors of Sarajevo’s culinary heritage come alive in a setting steeped in history and charm.

Our guide told us the story behind this restaurant by the river and we set out for lunch at this charming place, sitting next to the pure waters in full view of the City Hall and the Old Town. Service was kind, polite and quick. We had the platter of Bosnian specialties, stuffed onion, capsicum with tomato and yogurt dressing. Also ordered a vegetarian dish, baked eggplant, you could taste the baked aroma in the eggplants, two of them with a generous topping of yogurt. Absolutely delicious, fresh, fragrant. We wiped our plates clean with the tasty homemade bread. Only 19 km for the best meal on our Balkans trip!

Wonderful Bosnian specialties

We went there by the recommendation from two different locals we met along the journey, and they were right. The food was the best, the most delicious we had during our road trip around the Balkan. We had many kind of different food recommended by the owner, all was delicious. They served plenty kind of bosnian traditional food, the restaurant ambiance also very traditional. Highly recommended!

The best in Sarajevo!

Starters of smoked cheese and breads was quickly followed ny chicken on the skewers and a meat feast; generous portions and a reasonable price. Authentic Bosnian setting across from the National Library – Inat Kuca has a real atory behind it. Try it out.

A midweek visit with family and friends.
